President’s Corner, June 2014

It really is a brave new world out there. It’s Pride Month, of course, a month to reflect and celebrate where we are and where we’ve come from.

It’s been quiet a year! Last year at this time, we were waiting – with bated breath -a decision from the Supreme Court regarding a Proposition which the CA voters approved in 2008. It’s hard to believe that it was less than a year ago the Supreme Court struck down that odious Proposition. In the year since, we all
know couples, in GLASC and out, who have gotten happily, and legally married.

And – wonder of wonders! – California did not fall into the sea. [Though whether we
caused the drought remains to be seen: don’t tell Pat Robertson.]

Things continue to move forward nationally as well. Just this week [May 13th] Idaho struck down its anti-gay ban, and beginning June 1st, gay couples in
Illinois will be able to get legally married. A fitting date it seems to me.

It is a new world out there. One I never dreamed or imagined would ever come to
be, growing up a closeted kid in the 80’s in Burbank. So, be proud, and celebrate! We have so much to celebrate for!

Religious Liberty Hypocrisy

I’m so used to hearing one sort of Christian prejudice that it actually took me a second to figure out what was going on here. That’s a pretty sad state of affairs, actually.

It’s also a good reason not to visit North Carolina any time soon [even though I am]:
