In Memoriam

It is with sadness and great respect that we share the passing of PFLAG founder
Jeanne Manford, pioneering ally for LGBT rights. Mrs. Manford died Tuesday
– January 8, 2012 at the age of 92. She started PFLAG after marching with her
son in 1972 at the Christopher Street Liberation Day Parade in New York. She
carried a sign that read, “Parents of Gays: Unite in Support of Our Children.” The
following year (1973) she hosted the first meeting of PFLAG in New York. Today,
the organization has more than 350 chapters and 200,000 members across the United States.
